Continuing a long tradition, Fairfield Prep celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 10:00 am at Alumni Hall. Immediately following Mass, the Prep student body gathered with the faculty and administration in the Kartovsky Quad for the dedication of Arrupe Hall. Greg Jordan '07 joined faculty and administrators as a participant in the program, addressing the crowd with his own tribute to Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ. Since 1942, Fairfield Prep has existed as the only Jesuit high school in Connecticut and welcomes students of every religion, race, and economic background.

The addition of Pedro Arrupe Hall completes the expansion of the Prep campus, which has included a renovation of the two existing classroom buildings and the construction of a new practice gym and locker room facility. Named for the much revered past Superior of the worldwide Jesuit order, it was Fr. Arrupe who urged the Jesuits to educate “men and women for others”, committed by their faith to concern for the needy and disenfranchised. At Prep, an outstanding faculty and a student body of 900 will now enjoy a new building which includes a library/academic center, an oversized, technology-rich classroom/meeting area, a weight room, two classrooms, a guidance compound, a faculty workroom and a new lobby. Prep students also have use of the Fairfield University Library, the Quick Center for the Arts, the Egan Chapel and the Recreation Complex and athletic fields.

Fr. Michael Boughton, SJ, President of Fairfield Prep, noted that “the dedication of this beautiful addition to the Prep campus marks the conclusion of a dynamic process of collaboration between Fletcher Thompson, Gilbane Construction and the educational programs and Jesuit mission of this school. We are a very vibrant academic community, with a rich tradition and all the daily energy of 900 adolescent males. These companies took our needs and our religious vision seriously and we are proud of and blessed by the result.”
